What will you do
A day to learn an ancient knowledge that still shapes the Calabrian landscape today: the art of dry-stone walls. Accompanied by an expert master craftsman, you will go directly to the worksite to understand how stones, balance, and technique make it possible to build solid structures without using mortar, discovering a sustainable craft that combines manual skill and knowledge of the local area.
Start experience
The day begins with an introduction to the fundamental principles of dry stone walls: stone selection, stability, drainage, and the differences between retaining structures and small decorative elements. The master stonemason will present tools, materials, and construction principles before moving on to practice.
Key moment
Right on site, you will start working the stone and experimenting with the techniques of correct placement and fitting. You will learn how to manage the pressure of the ground and build functional elements such as steps, borders, or integrated seating, with continuous assistance and explanations tailored to the group.
Return
The experience concludes with a review of the techniques learned and practical suggestions for continuing to practice, leaving you with a concrete understanding of a craft heritage that still today contributes to the protection of the Calabrian landscape.
