Description

The day introduces the tradition of dry stone walls, a technique that has shaped the Calabrian landscape for centuries. The course allows participants to get closer to a sustainable craftsmanship knowledge, useful for understanding how to construct terraces, boundaries, and small stone furniture elements.

Upon arrival, the master presents materials, tools, and fundamental principles: stability, drainage, choice of stones, and differences between a retaining wall and a decorative wall. After a brief theoretical introduction, we move on to practice. Techniques for positioning, the correct interlocking of stones, managing soil pressure, and designing functional elements like steps, integrated benches, or boundaries for a barbecue area are learned. All activities take place directly on site, with progressive trials and continuous assistance for manageable efforts.

The course is designed for motivated beginners. The operations involve moving stones and manual work, always safely. The master adapts explanations and pace to the group, ensuring clear learning and controlled practice. The real criteria that make a wall built without mortar solid and the role of dry stone walls in protecting the territory are understood.

The day concludes with a review of the techniques learned and useful tips for continuing to practice. The experience combines training, tradition, and direct contact with a still-living craftsmanship heritage.
