What will you do

A guided path through nature, science, and landscape inside Forte Poggio Pignatelli, where the Faunistic Museum Diorama tells the story of Aspromonte’s biodiversity through environmental reconstructions and direct observation. An experience designed to understand how fauna and habitats are intertwined in the Strait area.

Start experience

Welcome and introduction to the museum, with an overview of the ecosystems of Aspromonte and the layout of the exhibition route. The four rooms reconstruct distinct natural environments, from coastal wetlands to high-altitude forests.

Key moment

You will visit the museum rooms following a route that showcases the area's fauna, habitats, and ecological dynamics. A specific focus is dedicated to the migration of large birds of prey that cross the Strait of Messina, observed in their natural and scientific context.

Return

The experience ends on the Fort terrace with a view of the Strait of Messina and with a final reflection on the value of biodiversity and its protection, also through the work of Sergio Tralongo, to whom the museum is dedicated.

Much more than just a museum

I expected a traditional visit, but instead the route is engaging and well-organized. The reconstructions of the Aspromonte environments are carefully detailed and help to better understand the local wildlife. Giuseppe was very helpful and made the visit even more interesting

A surprising discovery

I didn't know about this museum and I was really impressed. The section dedicated to the birds of prey of the Strait is fascinating, and the explanations allow visitors to understand the importance of this territory from a naturalistic perspective. The view from the Fort is also beautiful.

Interesting visit

Well-designed route, also suitable for children. I appreciated the reconstructions of the habitats and the explanations from the guide. I would have added a few more interactive elements, but it is still a visit I recommend.

A must-visit if you love nature

It is a place that manages to convey the value of biodiversity without ever being boring. The rooms are well set up and every environment tells something different. Giuseppe answers all questions with passion and engages the group during the visit.

An hour well spent

A pleasant visit, rich in information and also suitable for those who are not experts in fauna. The explanations are clear and the historical context of the Fort adds further interest to the experience. Ideal to combine with the discovery of Aspromonte or an excursion nearby.

Culture and scenery together

In addition to the museum, we greatly appreciated the location of the Fort. Ending the visit overlooking the Strait of Messina is the best way to connect what we saw in the rooms with the actual territory. Indeed a very well thought-out experience.
