Description
The urban itinerary of Stilo begins at the Cattolica, a Byzantine masterpiece immersed in the valley of the Stilaro and a symbol of the village. From here, the path develops through the alleys of the historic center, where time seems to have stood still.
The walk leads to discover ancient architectural and religious testimonies, such as the church of San Domenico and the remains of the convent that hosted the philosopher Tommaso Campanella, author of the famous City of the Sun.
The journey continues towards the Laura of the Divina Pastorella, the portal of the Cathedral, and the evocative Fountain of the Dolphins, one of the city’s emblems. Each stop reveals a piece of the history that has shaped Stilo over the centuries.
The path concludes at the church of San Giovanni il Nuovo, custodian of The Paradise, a precious altarpiece from the seventeenth century painted by Giovanbattista Caracciolo. Upon request, it is possible to book a typical lunch in a local restaurant to complete the experience.
