A hike in the heart of the Aspromonte Geopark to reach Pietra Cappa, the tallest monolith in Europe. A trail that crosses rugged and scenic landscapes to one of the most iconic and recognizable geosites in Calabria.
Start experience
Start near Pietra Lunga with a gradual immersion in the Aspromonte landscape. The trail immediately introduces an open, rocky natural environment, with a steady pace and climbs distributed לאורך the route.
Key moment
After about three hours of walking, you reach the base of Pietra Cappa. Here the most scenic part of the entire itinerary opens up: an immersive pause amid silence, the rock’s verticality, and the reading of the surrounding geological landscape. This is the moment set aside for the lunch break (packed lunch) and for observing the site.
Return
Descent along an alternative trail that completes the loop around the monolith. The return alternates scenic stretches and shadier areas, with water points available along the way, until returning to the starting point.
