What will you do
A loop trail in the heart of the Calabrian Serre, where forest and industrial archaeology intertwine along the ancient route of the Decauville railway. An itinerary that crosses Serre Park among woods, waters, and historical sites linked to ironworking and the exploitation of mountain resources.
Start experience
Starting from the Monte Corvo area and entering the route of the former Decauville railway. The first section follows a gentle, scenic route through woods of holm oak, chestnut, beech and silver fir within the SCI “Bosco di Stilo”.
Key moment
Walk along Lake Giulia, an artificial reservoir linked to the historic hydroelectric production of the Stilaro, passing near the Mangiatorella spring. The route continues to the Ferdinandea area, where structures of the Bourbon iron and steel complex and traces of the old railway emerge.
Return
Return along the loop trail between the woods and infrastructure remains, following the rhythm of the old Decauville. A finale that reveals the link between nature and industrial archaeology in the Serre landscape.
