Description

The Aspromonte preserves surprising and unexpected geological formations. Among these, the so-called Dolomites of the South stand out, limestone spires and towers reaching up to 100 meters, creating a unique and spectacular landscape.

The hike starts with a loop trail that leads to the northern ridge of the massif. Here, the views open up as far as the eye can see, showcasing the contrast between the typical granites of Aspromonte and the surprising Jurassic limestone outcrops, similar to those of the Dolomites in Northern Italy.

The main destination is the Canolo geosite, a place of extraordinary natural and scientific value, where the rocks tell the story of the Earth. Alongside its geological charm, the area is rich in forests, limestone caves, and deep valleys that offer unforgettable glimpses.

The village of Canolo, nestled among these mountains, completes the experience with its authenticity: founded after the Saracen raids, it preserves ancient traditions and is known for its mineral water spring. An unspoiled corner of Calabria, where nature and history intertwine.
